We work on everything from compact city terraces to sprawling country estates with the same approach: brave design and bold compositions, all executed with meticulous attention to detail.
Tom Howard Studio Team
Our creative studio is led by Tom Howard, alongside senior designer, Lana Knyazevych. Together we work directly with our clients and our in-house landscaping and build team to bring each design to life, working to Tom’s exacting standards from groundwork to final planting.

Tom studied Fine Art at Winchester, then spent a decade in Japan where he absorbed the discipline of Japanese garden design - restraint, balance, intentionality.
Inspired by his late father and mother’s love for gardens, he qualified in Garden Design with distinction in 2009 and founded the studio in 2010, bringing landscaping in-house in 2014.
You’ll rarely see an actual Japanese garden come out of the studio, but the principles are there. Natural and contemporary materials and bold compositions, softened by naturalistic planting that works with the seasons.
A pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers, Tom lives in Surrey with his wife Yumiko and son Oscar.
Lana Knyazevych
Senior Designer

Lana is a talented garden designer, originally from Ukraine. She studied Architecture and Landscape Architecture at Lviv’s National Forestry University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a Masters in Landscape Architecture.
She joined the studio in 2016 and has a particular gift for small, impactful gardens, making tight spaces feel generous without tricks or gimmicks.
She is known within the team for her creativity and problem-solving skills.

Tom is a pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers (SGD). The studio has been recognised with Houzz Best of Service and Best of Design awards annually since 2016, and has won multiple Pro Landscaper awards including Supreme Winner in 2024.
